✅ Step 1: Download and Install Ledger Live

Ledger Live is the official application for managing your device, installing apps, and managing your crypto portfolio. **Do not use third-party software** for the initial setup.

• Visit **Ledger.com/Start** and download Ledger Live for your specific operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, or iOS).
• Install the application on your computer or mobile device.
• Open Ledger Live and select **"Initialize a new device."**
• Choose your specific Ledger model (Nano S, Nano X, Stax, etc.) and follow the on-screen prompts.

⚙️ Step 2: Choose a PIN Code

Your PIN code is the only protection for your physical device. It is a **4-8 digit code** that you will use every time you unlock your Ledger.

• Connect your Ledger device to your computer via the provided USB cable.
• On the device screen, follow the instructions to choose a PIN. Use the left/right buttons to change numbers and both buttons simultaneously to confirm.
• **Memorize your PIN.** Do not write it down near your device.
• Confirm the PIN code when prompted.

🚨 Step 3: Record the 24-Word Recovery Phrase

This is the **single most important step**. Your 24-word recovery phrase (also called a seed phrase) is the master key to all your crypto funds. **If you lose it, you lose your funds.** If someone else gets it, they can steal your funds.

1. Your Ledger device will display **24 words** in order. Use the provided recovery sheets.
2. **Write down each word** clearly and precisely in the correct order (Word 1, Word 2, ..., Word 24).
3. **Double-check** your writing. Verify the spelling of every single word.
4. The device will ask you to **confirm several words** (e.g., "Word 12," "Word 19"). Use the device buttons to select and confirm the correct word.
5. Once confirmed, **store your recovery sheet offline** in a safe, secure, and private location (like a safe or a bank vault). **Never take a photo of it.**

➕ Step 4: Install Applications via Ledger Live

You need to install an application on your Ledger device for every type of coin you want to manage (e.g., Bitcoin app for BTC, Ethereum app for ETH, etc.).

• In Ledger Live, go to the **"Manager"** tab.
• Unlock your Ledger device and allow Ledger Manager access when prompted on the device screen.
• Search for the cryptocurrency you want (e.g., **Bitcoin**).
• Click the **"Install"** button next to the relevant application.
• After installing the app on your device, you can use Ledger Live to **"Add Account"** for that coin.
